In a candid new interview, drag star Joey Arias admits to popping hormone pills as part of her Las Vegas beauty regime while starring in Cirque de Soleil’s flesh-and-sex fantasy Zumanity.
Arias, who recently moved back to New York after five years in Vegas, reveals her body-enhancing experimentation to Gay City News columnist David Noh. She says that it was her friend Thierry Mugler, the show's costume designer, who made her rethink her decision.
“I got a little fleshy, but I stopped just before the tits started to pop and that’s why my hips grew—never had ‘em before. I was gonna get the tits and be topless for the last Cirque show and Mugler was like, ‘That would be incredible!’ But after a month, he said, ‘You know what? Don't put the tits in. Keep the fantasy and androgyny.’”
Since returning to NYC, Arias has received raves for her new stage venture, Arias With A Twist.
The musical co-stars an array of cast-members created by puppeteer Basil Twist.
Perhaps Joey can borrow some stuffing.
