My Comrade Editor Linda Simpson here… Last night I had the honor of emceeing the first ever Miss Stonewall Pageant… and it was a hoot!
The Stonewall is, of course, the birthplace of modern gay liberation—back in 1969, it was where a bunch of fed-up fags, dykes and dragsters rioted against the corrupt NYC police force. Last night, the atmosphere was still riotous—in a goofy way—with an all-over-the-map contest that featured everything from earnest lipsynchers to nutso performance artists.
The judges gave top honors to the kooks...
Second place went to La JohnJoseph, who performed a spirited and messy (fake blood galore) interpretation of David Bowie’s Fame. She’s pictured with her stage partner, Thain Torres.
And the winner is… Sugga Pie Koko, who served Insane Realness. Her Hershey’s maxi-dress was ovah!
As the winner, she receives $200 in cash, a photo session by photographer Will Smith, and a prominent position on Stonewall’s float in the upcoming gay pride parade.
Cheer up Duch and Violet Temper... there's always next year!
All hail the New Miss Stonewall!
Let her wisdom and beauty be an inspiration to us all!
