My Comrade editor Linda Simpson here… I knew there was a reason I hung on to these Yves St. Laurent ads that appeared in American Vogue way back in 1985—they’re incredible! The captivating shapes, colors and textures—it’s no wonder the French designer, who died on Sunday at age 71, is being praised for being a great artist. Here his masterpieces are worn by the sort of exotic models that he favored best (including Jerry Hall) and photographed by another late creative genius, Helmut Newton.
